Backup to external drive

Are you trying to backup to an external drive or a shared volume?

FMS can only save the backup files to local hard disks (which includes external hard disks). The backups cannot be saved to a network path. Saving to a network shared volume would slow FMS down significantly, plus it's a failure point for the backup process.

The best method is to run either an OS level script or use another program to copy the FMS backups to the shared network folder.

Thanks, yes my intention was to backup to a networked mac. So I will look into the other options you mention, and will go down the local volumn option. I have a spare internal drive which I we can install.

Thank you very much for your help.
