Faulty Quick Find

Featured Replies

Im having an unusual issue with the Quick Find feature. Currently, i have quick find setup on 4 fields:

Name

OfficeName

Phone

Fax

If i go to use the quick find and for example, enter the name Henry, i am presented with 13 records. As i look through these 13 records, i'm finding that 9 of the 13 records do not have Henry anywhere in the 4 fields.

When performing the search do i need to add any special characters?

When entering a phone number to search, the quick find works flawlessly, only appears to be an issue with searching with text as opposed to numbers

Anyone else having a smiliar issue?

Are you running into the QuickFind bug that was addressed in the recent 11.0v2 update?

According to the release notes on the update:

5. Quick Find:

Addressed an issue where Quick Find finds data from fields that are not currently shown on the layout.

I just loaded v11.0v2 yesterday on all of the clients but have yet to update the server portion to 11.0v2.

But yes this does appear to be the issue.

I just went ahead and updated the server to 11v2 and the issue still appears.

Ive even changed the quick find to be set for only the Name field and it is still pulling irrelevant records.

Please disregard for i have found the issue to my problem.

I was not aware that by default fields added to the layout were automatically set to be included in the quick find.

since this field was on a separate tab i did not see it.

What i did find interesting was that i contacted support before i found this and i was informed that the quick find will search all fields. I was under the impression that the quick find would only search the fields you specify??? He pointed me to the following article for an explanation:

http://help.filemaker.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/7604/kw/7604/session/L3NpZC95Nzc2eVYzaw%3D%3D

This article appears to contradict itself as in the beginning it says that:

"values entered into the Quick Find tool are not tied to a specific field"

But at the bottom of the article, it says:

"•To improve search performance, limit the search to only the fields that contain the data you are searching for"

Kind of confusing.
