strange ODBC connection problems

I'd like to preface this by saying that this problem is very Mac specific- everything works properly when the same thing is done on a PC.

I am trying to make an ODBC connection between WebCatalog and Filemaker Pro 5.5 on a Macintosh. All machines involved are macs. WebCatalog has it's own built in functionality for connecting to a DSN, which I have used on other platforms with success; however, whenever I try on a Mac, I get this error message:

[FileMaker][ODBC FileMaker Pro driver]In SQLExtendedFetch, only SQL_FETCH_NEXT is supported for SQL_SCROLL_FORWARD_ONLY cursors.

I am using the ODBC 3.11 Filemaker PPC driver and control panel which ships on the Filemaker Developer CD. This seems like a problem with the driver itself to me, though I'll admit Mac software is not my forte, and WebCatalog's involvement is a bit of a wildcard. Has anyone seen an error like this before? If so, what was the solution?
