edit records with odbc

Featured Replies

is it possible to edit a record in FMP using ODBC? i have a db on a mac. i can connect to it from VB5 on a pc. i can read the data. i can create a new record. i can do this by using db.execute "insert into...." or by using a recordset.addnew command. i opened the db for read/write and the recordset as a dynaset which should allow read/write.

when i try to edit a record either through db.execute "update...." or by recordset.edit i get a message that "query is not updatable".

i have been to xsf site and downloaded their white paper on FMP, ODBC and MS Office. they only read from FMP. they don't attempt to write to the db at all.

so, can this be done? does the FMP ODBC driver allow for editing of records?

i would appreciate any help as if this isn't possible my project may be dead in the water.

thanks

Dave
