Dave E Posted October 20, 2010 Posted October 20, 2010 Hi everyone It's been a while since I visited here - and a while since I've used FM... i can't remember... is there a quick way to create lots of fields in a table? I have multiple spreadsheets, each with ~15-20 fields that I want to convert to a singe db with multiple tables. Is there a way to do this without creating each field manually? Thanks Dave
jamesducker Posted October 20, 2010 Posted October 20, 2010 Import the spreadsheet in to FileMaker. On the right-hand side of the import mapping window, at the top, you can choose "create new table"... this creates a new table with all the fields in it, correctly-named. Your profile says you use FMP 7; not sure if this feature was available back then but I think it probably was. Hope that helps. James
Dave E Posted October 20, 2010 Author Posted October 20, 2010 Hi James Thanks for your reply. No, the option to create a table on import doesn't seem to be in FM7. Regards Dave
Søren Dyhr Posted October 21, 2010 Posted October 21, 2010 No seriously structured database-table holds more than 20-30 fields max, where in filemaker a fair share of these are calcfields. However are imports pretty flat structurally speaking, we would need a little more context and purpose here to advice you anywhere in the vicinity of what you wished for? Could there be something less ideal in your categorizations, by refraining to lump obvious similarities together in fewer fields or fieldnames if you wish? --sd
