Text field with drop down menu, how to allow only new entries in the drop down and not the field.

Featured Replies

I want to collect the different entries folk do in a field, but want to do this automatically. How do I force people (read automate) to do the entry in the drop down menu? Or have the entry automatically show up in the drop down menu?

Thanks

How is the value list that's behind the drop-down menu set up to get its values? If it is "custom" then select the option to allow editing (in the field format on the layout) and just type the new ones in.

If the value list is based on a field then you need to explain more about what you want and why.

I think the answer is yes to that (see picture)

Basically I want to not allow anybody to enter anything in the field unless it gets added to the drop-down menu. Is that clearer?

Excellent. To ensure that only items in the list can be entered into the field, go to the field's definition, change to the Validation tab and set the option to only allow values from value list (and select the value list).

Brilliant. 100000 thanks.

BTW. I am trying to rate your post and that seems impossible.
