I'm using Filemaker to publish a directory. Details of each entry are presented on a half page and need to fit into specific areas of the page.

Occasionally, the name of the organisation is too long to fit in the available space. I am trying to find away of working out how long a string is when presented on the page (the sum of the character widths, not the number of characters in the string) so I can condense the font or reduce the text size to allow it to fit the available space.

Has anyone found a way of managing this?
