odbc connection fails

I'm on a mac. I can connect to a mysql database via odbc using navicat so i know the login credentials are correct.

But when i try to connect via odbc in FM using the 5.1 mysql connector, i get...

"The account and password you entered cannot be used to access this file. Please try again."

Any suggestions?
