charper Posted January 15, 2001 Posted January 15, 2001 I've been trying to get a PDF writer installed on my system so that I can have filemaker save reports as PDF files to be sent to customers. Earlier, someone here told me that I could download a PDF writer from Adobe. I did a search and found an adobe page that offers their PDF writer in 8 different languages for NT and 95. http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/acpwin.htm I have windows 98 unfortunately but I tried these other two versions anyway and of course I couldn't get them to work. When I asked for help on the Adobe forums I was told that PDF writer is not available for downloading from adobe - that it must be purchased as part of the full adobe app. So what's the deal? Is this adobe download page lying? Also, where can I download version that will work with windows 98?
Vaughan Posted January 16, 2001 Posted January 16, 2001 The Adobe download page specifically mentions that the Acrobat 3 serial number is required. Acrobat is the "writer" software. The "reader" free, but Adobe charge for the writing software. That's their business model for Acrobat. If you want to create PDF files you'll have to buy the Acrobat software. Sometimes Acrobat is bundled with Adobe PageMaker software, if you have copy of PageMaker take a look on the disks for Acrobat. You might get lucky.
charper Posted January 16, 2001 Author Posted January 16, 2001 I don't see any mention of the serial number thing but I believe you. Thanks for the advice. I'll look into it.
