Recording & Playing Sound Files

Featured Replies

Hello. I am trying to record a sound file from FM, store it in the container field (HardDrive is an option) and then playing it back from the same container field (or using script, insert automatically from Hard Drive into a container field). I know that FM invokes its own sound recorder when you click on the container field, but the recording time is 30 sec only. I am looking for some solution that will allow to record a sound file until I stop it and if it takes to involve a third party application, it should run on the background, prefferably. Any help is appreciated.

we had started a verification company and we had this problem. if you are using a mac you will need to get ram, lots of it. the more ram you have the more time you have. also you will need to look at the way you will be listening to it. on a mac it's fine just double click and you can hear it. if you need to send it to someone that has a PC then you will have to convert it. i have 256mb of ram in my PC and i only get about 30secs. the MAC has about 128mb of ram and you get about 3min. if you need to convert the sounds from mac to pc let me know and i'll send you the file i use.

the funny thing is that we called FM and none of their people there could help us out. we have been doing this for over a year and it works file for us.

I've been using this for a couple of years in systems which allow senior execs to make voice annotations to briefing documents (so they don't have to type, or scribble notes).

On a Mac (192 MB RAM and Sys 9) I get 12 mins of recording time per container field - but you can have as many container fields per layout as you like. The same file on a PC with 128MB RAM gives 3 mins per container.

I normally provide 6 containers, of which 2 are playable only by the senior exec's password so that they can make notes which are for their ears only. The other 4 are available to the personal staff who have to take action on whatever the boss has said. You could also use repeating container fields for this.

I also use the sound recording feature in a contacts system.
