searching within container contents

Featured Replies

As container fields, or supercontainer, now provide abilities for filemaker to manage a significant amount of data. I'm trying to determine the feasibility of indexing the container contents to allow searching for records in which the container data matches some text or number query. The only thing I've seen that looks like it fits the bill is 360 Works Scribe. It appears to be able to read and write text contents of Word, Excel and PDF documents, which would allow the contents read into text fields to be searched. I haven't inquired as to whether this plugin could also extract text contents from other types of files (ie, Powerpoint, Visio, EXIF data from image files, etc.) but I'd imagine that filters to decode the binary data would be necessary to read each binary format.

Has anyone else looked into this, and are there any other solutions to using Filemaker to search container contents?

Thanks,

Dana
