How to clear contents of Custom Value List using a script command?

Featured Replies

(I wasn't sure if this topic should be posted in the Scripts forum or here, so I apologize if I got it wrong. [How come when there's a 50/50 chance at something I get it wrong 90% of the time?])

Is there a script command to clear a Custom value list from a field? I couldn't find one.

In use, when I create updated master files, I don't want to include Custom value list entries after making a clone of the previous version's file. However, I want to leave Indexing on for the for field(s) (for the end user) but just want the stored/indexed choices cleared out before they're given a copy of the updated file.

As always, TIA for your help!

Sorry, confused.

Custom value lists are those where the value are typed manually into the value list dialog. There is no way to clear these by a script.

Perhaps use a value list based on a field instead of a custom value list. When the file is cloned, all value lists based on fields will be empty because there are no records.

Thanks, Vaughan--that's what I figured I'll have to do. What I wanted to do is create a copy/clone of a file but clear out the contents of the Custom value list, first. That way, when the recipient uses the copied/cloned file the field(s) s/he will be able to retain the custom values s/he assigns to them instead of disappearing or accruing values based on field content.
