Popup Menus in Windows 2000

I have a field that is formatted to have a rather long selection of items in a popup menu, that previously expanded to a couple of columns when clicking on the menu. After the upgrade to Windows 2000, the menu is one loooonnnnng column that requires scrolling. You can't see which of the items are selected without scrolling all the way down. I assume this is a Windows option, and I'm wondering if anyone knows a place to change the option...
