File Paths to Container

My company has an excel file (with about 1600 records, each with 30 fields) that they'd like to convert to a filemaker type database. The excel spreadsheet has a column where a filename/path is listed (e.g. /Users/name/work.pdf). Is there any way to turn these paths into container fields when I import the excel sheet into Filemaker Pro?

I am running FM 12 by the way.
