Collapsing Sub Summary Parts

Hi, I have created a phonebook database but for the printable version layout I am having issues with the sub summary parts. It is sorted by department and sub department but not all departments have a sub department so is it possible to set it so that the second sub summary part collapses when there is no content to display. Images attached to hopefully clarify what I am meaning.

Image 1 shows the layout, image 2 shows what I am trying to avoid.

Thoughts welcomed. Thanks

Try setting sliding on the sub department field, make sure to check "Also resize enclosing part".

You can find this setting on the Position tab of Inspector.

That's what I thought should do it, but this seems to have absolutely no impact. Any additional thoughts?

It only works in preview mode - not browse mode. Check out the sample attached.

This is very bizarre. I have downloaded a trial of FileMaker Pro 12, as I was using 11. The sample you provided is setup the same as my database. Opening my database in 12, the sliding I have set up works. But it doesn't 11?

So it would appear I have discovered a wonderful glitch in Filemakers layout tools. When it come to sliding and resizing, if you have vertical text alignment set to centre, sliding stops working. Vertical alignment set to top, everything works fine. Go figure.
