Connection over PPP to FMPServer crashes

I'm running FileMaker Pro 4.1 on an iMac (OS9) configured with Open Transport PPP to create a dialup connection and then attempt to contact our FMP Server 3.0 via TCP/IP.

This used to work on the old machine running ConfigPPP, but now it's crashing with OT PPP - the entire program quits unexpectedly with a Type 11, 2 or 3 error. OT is the most up-to-date version, as is OT PPP and I ran FMP Updater to 4.1v3 and that didn't help. It's not a PPP error, eveything else works. I've tried reinstalling FMP and that doesn't work either. Halp! Is this an OS9 compatability issue? I doubt it's an extension confilct because it's pared down to the fewest possible extensions.

Try opening the dialup conenction first, then launching FMP.

I tried that several times.

Still the same odd sequences of error codes. I restarted the machine, then dialed up, then started FMP. Same thing.

Argh! What to do?

Which version of OS9 and OT?
