External Authentication and Alias's

Featured Replies

I am using External Authentication for users in DocuBin. However, on the server being used for External Authentication, I have several alias's (short names) set up for each user. So, when I add a user to DocuBin all of the alias's show up as users in DocuBin. It wouldn't be a problem really except that all of the alias's for the user have to be added to each folder's permissions to be able to use the folders that are created by that user. I really only want one user account for each person so my questions are :

1) If I delete all of the alias's but one, will DocuBin allow me to access those files and folders that were created by the alias's that were deleted?

2) All of the alias's go back to the same user, so if one alias has permissions to a folder, why doesn't all the other alias's for the same user have the same permissions?

Have I totally confused everyone? I hope I have made sense, but if not, please let me know and I will try to clarify.

Thanks for any help!

Susie

DocuBin (and by extension FileMaker) have no way to reconcile multiple aliases to a single account, so they get treated as distinct users. I recommend training your users to pick a single account for using DocuBin.

Yes, I definitely am going to do make that recommendation to the IT guy. The IT person set up the alias's upon request of one of the employees. It has turned out to be a bad idea. Thanks! I thought that would be the answer.
