As a TechNet member, I have downloaded the FMSA12 Development License for testing.  I tried installing it on a new laptop I purchased for this purpose (8 GB Ram, 1TB disk, 3rd Gen Intel Core-i7-3630).  When I started the install I got a "not compatible" message.  I continued the install and when finished (no further messages) I didn't have access to the admin console.  Has anyone successfully installed FMS12 on Windows 8?  Is this a Java problem?  Figuring I did something wrong, I uninstalled it and am waiting for some assistance.  I have successfully installed FMSA12 on both Windows 2003 and WIndows 2008 servers.  The only problem I ran into on the Windows 2003 server was getting the right version of Java installed.
