merlyn383 Posted January 24, 2013 Posted January 24, 2013 In about 3% of the emails imported, the email imports as an HTML email where the "code" begins with: PGh0bWwgeG1sbnM6dj0idXJuOnNjaGVtYXMtbWljcm9zb2Z0LWNvbTp2bWwiIHhtbG5zOm89InVybjpzY2hlbWFzLW1pY3Jvc29mdC1jb206b2ZmaWNlOm9mZmljZSIgeG1sbnM6dz0idXJuOnNjaGVtYXMtbWljcm9zb2Z0LWNvbTpvZmZpY2U6d29yZCIgeG1sbnM6bT0iaHR0cDovL3NjaGVtYXMubWljcm9zb2Z0LmNvbS9vZmZpY2UvMjAwNC8xMi9vbW1sIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvVFIvUkVDLWh0bWw0MCI+DQo8aGVhZD4NCjxtZXRhIGh0dHAtZXF1aXY9IkNvbnRlbnQtVHlwZSIgY29udGVudD0idGV4dC9odG1sOyBjaGFyc2V0PXV0Zi04Ij4NCjxtZXRhIG5hbWU9IkdlbmVyYXRvciIgY29udGVudD0iTWljcm9zb2Z0IFdvcmQgMTQgKGZpbHRlcmVkIG1lZGl1bSkiPg0KPHN0eWxlPjwhLS0NCi8qIEZvbnQgRGVmaW5pdGlvbnMgKi8NCkBmb250LWZhY2UNCgl7Zm9udC1mYW1pbHk6Ik1TIEdvdGhpYyI7DQoJcGFub3NlLTE6MiAxMSA2IDkgNyAyIDUgOCAyI and then goes on for another 7,000 characters. The code always begins with "PGh0bW" but everything after that varies. I have deleted the email from FMP and re-imported it with the same result. Thoughts?
Patrick R Posted January 31, 2013 Posted January 31, 2013 This is Base64 encoding which is what standard e-mail uses (6-bit characters, a-z, A-Z, +, and - ) which when decoded gives off the following result: <html xmlns:v="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:vml" xmlns:o="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" xmlns:w="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:word" xmlns:m="http://schemas.microsoft.com/office/2004/12/omml" xmlns="http://www.w3.org/TR/REC-html40"> <head> <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8"> <meta name="Generator" content="Microsoft Word 14 (filtered medium)"> <style><!-- /* Font Definitions */ @font-face {font-family:"MS Gothic"; panose-1:2 11 6 9 7 2 5 8 2 _____________________________ It looks like this HTML email was made with Outlook 2007 or higher, hence the Word HTML formatting. Can you test with Outlook created e-mail and non-Outlook created e-mail to see if you get the same issue? Or, does this happen with all HTML e-mail? I'd like to see if we can get a pattern for this. -Patrick EDIT: Actually, I just remembered, Outlook 2007 and higher doesn't generally support Base64 encoding! It uses UTF-8 instead. Let me talk to the other developers about this. While I'm doing that, can you upload a few more examples of jumbled lettering? I just want to check if they have the UTF-8 encoding in common. -Patrick
Patrick R Posted January 31, 2013 Posted January 31, 2013 Looked at the source code. It looks like HTML gets encoded into Base64, and one way to disable that behavior is to specify the flag "htmlRaw=1" when fetching messages. -Patrick
merlyn383 Posted February 6, 2013 Author Posted February 6, 2013 Sorry for dropping out there for a bit, got sidetracked on other projects. I tried using the htmlRaw=1 flag but it doesn't seem to have done anything. The problem is not universal to HTML formatted email. Of the 26,500 email records over 19,000 are HTML emails with only 1,100 exhibiting the problem. At first I thought that it may have something to do with international characters in the email but this is not the case for all of the problems. It MAY be that all emails with international characters are problems but not all emails with problems have international characters. Additional examples follow. I even found a few with different starting strings.
