Portal + Tab Control = <Table Missing>

I have a layout with a Tab Control on it, housing 3 tabs.

 

In each tab, I have a portal, all pointing to the same table occurrence, but displaying different data.

 

90% of the time, everything works fine.  However, some of the time, when I click on a tab to switch to  the data I want, the view switches to show everything as <Table Missing>, and sometimes, clicking on the 2nd or 3rd tab takes me to the 1st tab showing <Table Missing>.

 

A second click on the desired tab causes the portal to refresh and show the proper data, but I can't figure out what's going wrong in the first place to fix it.

 

Anyone have any ideas on how this can be fixed?

I only know "table missing" if FileMaker loses connection to the file hosting that table.

Earlier days is was fatal but I have noticed that FM12 seems to be a bit more flexible in re-establishing lost connections.

The window refresh could also be a hint that there's some important update.
