Moon Posted August 16, 2001 Posted August 16, 2001 Don't use repeating fields. A related database can contain all of the info. Just include a field that identifies the type of communication such as fax, home phone, email, etc. You will have a lot more options for searching, sorting, and reporting than you ever would with repeating fields. Repeating fields are relics of the old pre-FM3 flat file days, and have very limited utility in FileMaker any more.
trusttom Posted August 17, 2001 Posted August 17, 2001 I have a customer database. Each customer has a telephone number, fax number, and email address. Some customers have more than one telephone or fax number or email address. Is it worth it to keep these data in a separate related database or should I just use repeating fields within the customer database. If I decide to relate to the information should I keep the telephone, fax, and email information together in one database or break it out into three databases? It is likely I will occaisionally have to create customer/email address reports or customer/telephone number reports. Regards, Tom
