How to register plug-ins for use with WebDirect?

I am just now starting to look into using plug-ins on the server-side and want to use it with WebDirect.    I can't get my head wrapped around how registering the plug-ins would work.   I'm just plain having a brain fart.    I know where the plug-ins needs to be installed on the server for WebDirect.   Everything I've read says that the registration needs to be done with a script.  

 

Do you run a script in the WebDirect session or do you have to run a server-side script to register the plug-ins?

 

 

Any aid would be appreciated.
