nightdesigns
I"m looking to set something up that's a bit like how people use FM to make ID cards. But how is it done. Most often i see a system in which a camera is attached to the computer, and on the screen they are able to adjust what they want caputered. Does anyone have some more information about this, or where i can find these setups? Thanks -j
The Bridge
Check out the Troi Grabber plug-in: http://www.troi.com
nightdesigns
I've looked at that one, unfortunatly, it's really made for MAC, and i'm totally PC =. I don't think i want to invest in a mac just for this. Other ideas? Thanks.
The Bridge
Admittedly the Troi web page is Mac-centric, but I found this tucked in-between paragraphs... In reply to: On Windows you need a TWAIN compatible input source, like a video camera (camcorder), and installed TWAIN drivers for this input source. It's been reported to work with the 3Com Home connect PC Digital Webcam USB.
nightdesigns
But the specific features that i want are mac only From TROI: "crop pictures to grab only the desired part of the video image (Mac OS only) rotate pictures before grabbing (Mac OS only) "
Gogargirl
If your needs are for still image capture as you describe, I wouldn't get the Troi plug-in, which does a lot of video stuff you don't need. Instead, if you don't already have one, I'd get a graphics program like JASC Paint Shop Pro. It's cheaper than the plug-in (no I don't work for JASC!) and you would be able to do all the image manipulation you need: cropping, rotation, get rid of red eyes etc. So you set up the camera, take the picture, acquire the image into Paint Shop Pro, manipulate it and then ctrl +C to copy and Ctrl + V to paste into Filemaker. It's VERY easy. You could script quite a bit of this too.
nightdesigns
Still not quite what i need. Maybe I shoudl exactly say what we do currently, and what we would like to do. We take pictures of books, lots of books 7-8 perbook. After the pictures are taken, they are opened in photoshop, 3-4 are chosen, resized, and saved with a sequential number. All of this is done manually. What we'd like to do... Hook a camera into a computer that is mounted. do a basic WYSIWYG and hit a "capture button" which will automatically resize the picture and save it on the hard drive with the next sequential button. I was thinking something like what people use for ID cards since that's sort of the same thing. Thanks -j
The Bridge
Perhaps the InsideScan plug-in is what you're looking for: http://www.powersolutions.it I realize that it, too, has some Mac-only features -- but it's worth a shot! (no pun intended).
