Counting text lines

I need to make a script that will count lines of text, typed, on a 8 1/2x11" paper, that use the same size font and lines are double spaced so there are blank lines between each other. I will design the application to fit the text, font and size into a sized frame, but how would I go about creating a script that would count the lines of text and report the results?
