I'm running FM Server 5.0v2 on W2K SP2. Everything has been running fine until yesterday. I made a registry change for an unrelated issue that I was having on this machine, rebooted, and FM service failed to start. The event log error is:

TCP/IP network initialization failed; the TCP/IP address is already in use or an address could not be obtained. (10048)

The reg change I made was adding a new key to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftRpc

I have since removed the key and restarted but still no luck. This seems very stange as all other networking components are working properly. The IP address of the FM server machine is NOT in use by any other machines on the network, as the error message suggests.

BTW, the purpose of the reg change was to limit ports used by RPC. I can't see how that would be related to FM failing to initialize.

Anyone seen this error message before?
