Auto Complete in Drop Down list

We recently upgraded from FMS 11 to FMS 14 and we noticed different behavior in our drop down lists. 

say we have a value list of the numbers 1 to 100  and we have a drop down list that uses that value list.

If you have Auto Complete OFF you have this behavior:

click in the field - scroll down and choose 50 - click out of the field - click back in the field and the drop down list will already have 50 selected and you can easily click on 51 as it is next in the list. 

If you have Auto Complete ON you have this behavior:

click in the field - scroll down and choose 50(or type ahead) - click out of the field - click back in the field and the drop down list will start at 1. You will need to scroll down to 51 or use type ahead. 

This is slowing us down. Is there a way to have the old behavior where it will behave as the first example even when Auto Complete is on?
