  1. I'm sure this is a common need but I can't find a solution yet. I am making an "event record" in FMP and want to automate emailing it out to people. I see solutions for adding it to my own iCal through Applescript but I don't want/need it in my own ical but to send as a .ics file attachment. Any ideas? Thanks, Brian
  2. Thanks for the ideas. I am able to access the hosted file from a different computer on a different network. I still am puzzled on why it wont work at home. I appreciate the help though. Brian
  3. Yeah, the firewall is off. Anything else I could try that you could think of?
  4. I checked with my ISP and they say they don't block any ports. I tried bypassing my router thinking it could be blocking access, but that didn't help either. Any other ideas? I am on a Mac (10.6). Thanks much, Brian
  5. Thanks for the pointer. You hosting service looks good. Do you run into many problems accessing remotely through FMP? Is it pretty stable/reliable to access this way? I can't seem to figure out why I can't access either my own (client-to-client) file or the hosted one. What could be blocking access? Any ideas?
  6. Thanks for the idea. However I'm trying to set up access for multiple users so I need them to access it through FMP. Are remote connections normally pretty relaible and stable? Any ideas on how I could resolve? Thanks,
  7. I can't access my work database from my home fmp. I enter the fmnet:/ipaddress/filename in Open Remote and get an immediate error that it could not be opened (not available etc.). I have tried all the obvious checks: The file is open, network sharing is on. This computer has a static ip and is not behind a firewall. I turned off my network filtering software. Perhaps most telling, I even signed up for an trial account with an FMP hosting service and still couldn't access it. Called their tech support who tried it and accessed it fine. So it seems clear it is a problem on my local machine. I am rather stumped and have spent way too many hours trying to resolve. I am accessing the internet through a wireless router using dhcp. Please help if possible. Thanks in advance!
  8. Thanks for the help. That Ugo method seems perfect. Why do you recommend script triggers DJ?
  9. Thanks for the idea. Is there not a way to do it with my existing setup (I have put a lot of time into customizing)? Thanks, Brian
  10. I have 3 tables: 1- A Dashboard table with "search" fields that I use to filter records using portals 2- A Patient table with basic patient info 3- An Appointment table listing all the appointments I am trying to get a portal on the Dashboard to show all the patients whose last scheduled appointment is between two dates I set up a calculation in Patients, "Max (AppointmentInfo::AppointmentDate)" that displays the date of their final appointment, but have hit a dead end since I can't use that calculated field in my relationship with the Dashboard right? I know there is an easy solution somewhere, but can't find it. Any help is greatly appreciated...
  11. I am looking to hook up a live (or close to it) connection to some dental management software: Dentrix, Eaglesoft. I want to be able to pull data and ideally push as well. I was thinking ODBC, but this software doesn't support it. This may be over my head (I'm no hard-core developer), but I'm at least hoping to understand if it can be done and the basic concept of how it would be. Dentrix is reputed to try and "lock up" their data, but I know there are several other companies that have found a way to integrate with it successfully (SmileReminder, DemandForce). Any direction would be appreciated. Thanks.
  12. You are awesome. Thanks so much.
  13. I have some data imported which has the date formatted so FMP apparently can't recognize it. The dates are three letter months, space, two digit date, comma, space 4 digit year: Like This-> Oct 20, 2009 I tried reformatting with the Format Date but it gives me a question mark. I also tried a "getAsDate" calculation which didn't work either. Ideas?? Thanks Much
  14. OK. Now I'm really puzzled. Thanks to your good advice I did the custom dialog to capture/view the applescript being generated and it looks perfect. However it still gives me the same error and doesn't run the script. I tested the identical script in the Applescript Script Editor and it works fine. Any ideas??
  15. Are you saying that Get (ScriptParameter) doesn't work in the way I'm using it or just there is no way to confirm the Applescript that is being generated with the way I am using it? Also ho would I set a script parameter to a global variable? Sorry, I'm still pretty novice. Thanks for the help.
