  1. Very wise philosophical point about the XY problem! I like it. Thanks for sharing. (in this particular case I was just plain and simple curious, something that often gets me in trouble or causes a huge waste of time, but can be quite fun to pursue...)
  2. Didn't realize how complex all this computer stuff is "behind the scenes". I just wrongly assumed that a program window was a program window, regardless of the application that created it, so was curious why FMP, with all of its other powerful features, didn't support that option.
  3. Got it. Thank you very much!!!
  4. Thanks for info. I'm learning that files have specific options/"preferences", rather than setting preferences for the application. However, likely due to my ignorance, but when I go to File > File Options I see the attached windiow. Where do I go to set the date and time formats to "System's settings" by default? Much appreciated.
  5. Very interesting. Thank you for your explanation, and the original info you gave on your post at 16:28 yesterday. This issue makes sense now and your effort to explain everything is greatly appreciated! And, as OlgerDiekstra said, "... not telling someone the reason why something is better not done, isn't conducive"; it's intellectually fun to learn the reason why, even if it doesn't change one's immediate actions. All the best
  6. I'm a computer idiot so don't understand why it would be potentially dangerous. And if it is dangerous, why is support for this so ubiquitous among other programs? Here's an example from Text Edit in case I didn't explain myself well. This feature makes it so quick and easy to locate the actual data file in any application that supports this pathway, thus improving efficiency.
  7. Hi: Every time I open FMP14, I see this window (attached). Is there any way to set this as the default so that one doesn't have to navigate this window each time you open a file? Thank you!
  8. In every other Mac program that I am familiar with, if one command clicks on the window title you get a hierarchical view of where that particular document lives on your computer. This does not seem to be the case in FMP12 or FMPro 14. Am I doing something wrong, or is this capability not supported in FM? Thank you!
  9. Thanks to all for their input; much appreciated! Here is more detail: The “1.” Level has no indents and no tabs The “A.” level has no indents and one tab stop at 0.25” The “I” level has no indents and one tab stop at 0.5” The “a.” level has no indents and one tab stop at 0.75” The “i” level has no indents and one tab stop at 1.0” So, my question would be, how do I "convert" the tab stops in Word (that have multiple different values) into something that can be imported into FMP that will preserve these offsets? Is there a way in Word to search for, say, a tab stop of 0.5" and convert it into two tab stops of 0.25" each? Would this preserve the offsets in FMP? Is there a way in Word to search for, say, a tab stop of 0.5" and convert it into a certain number of spaces that is double the number of spaces for a tab stop of 0.25"? Sorry, these are likely easy, basic queries but I'm a complete computer idiot. Much appreciated!
  10. Hi: I'd like to preserve line offset formatting in FMP. For example, here's what I have in Word: 1. Four score and seven years ago A. Four score and seven years ago I. Four score and seven years ago a. Four score and seven years ago b. Four score and seven years ago B. Four score and seven years ago I. Four score and seven years ago a. Four score and seven years ago i. Four score and seven years ago b. Four score and seven years ago i. Four score and seven years ago ii. Four score and seven years ago And here's what one sees in FM Pro: 1. Four score and seven years ago Any and all suggestions welcome. Thank you! PS I'm using FMP12 and would happily upgrade to FMP13 if this would fix the issue. Much appreciated.
  11. Hi: I am not a newbie but a relative novice using FMPro 12 for Mac. I'd really like to have an app that runs on my iPhone that tracks date, mileage, calculates mileage delta from the last fill up, then uses the # of gallons put in to calculate MPG, and ideally then easily communicates this data to the master FMPro 12 (or 13 if need be) app on my iMac. Can anyone steer me as to the easiest way to get this done? I'd be willing to purchase an app if it is available. Thank you!
  12. Can one preserve tabs when pasting text into a text field in Filemaker? It doesn't work in FMP12 for Mac (at least to my limited knowledge), but I'd upgrade to FMP13 if this worked. Thank you very much!
