  1. I think you will find FMPro running faster with 10.2 Jaguar. Overall, Jaguar is much faster than the early versions of OS X. After your Jaguar install, remember to use Software Update several times to get the latest updates. Hope you have a fast connection as some of thiose updates are 20 megs or more in size.
  2. Success! First I removed two DIMMs, and still received the same 8-meg memory error. That left one more chance. I removed one more DIMM leaving a total of 512megs, and the installer program went on as smooth as it should. Now I can FMPro once again on a nice fast system. Thanks for all your suggestions!!
  3. I found two articles about the RAM limitation with the installation. The first one is: ------------------------- Erroneous Install Error Indicating Not Enough RAM On Computers With Large Amounts Of RAM ISSUE: When installing FileMaker Pro 5.5 you get an error message that the computer does not have the required 8mb of RAM to install software. The computer has plenty of RAM for example; 2GB of RAM. EXPLANATION: This is a confirmed issue with the MindVision installer that FileMaker, Inc. utilizes to install our products. FileMaker, Inc. has confirmed this issue with the FileMaker products listed. This document was published at a particular point in time. Product, services or technical information are subject to change without notice and may have changed since publication. ----------------------------- And that's all. No diagnosis or work-around solution!! I left a message stating their explanation still didn't help to solve the problem. Wonder if I'll receive a reply? There was an updater file but that won't help since it updates an installed FMPro 5.5. I'll be heading to work later today. It should be quiet enough for me to take out two or three 512meg RAM chips to see if the install can take place. I'll report back later tonight.
  4. Tried installing FileMaker Pro 5.5 on my new PowerMac G4 loaded to the max with 2 gigs of RAM running Jaguar. The install stops right at the beginning with a dialog box stating that this computer doesn't have the minimum amount of RAM of 8 megs! I haven't had enough time to try some other options, like taking out 2 memory chips to see if 1 gig of RAM qualifies as more than 8 megs. Neither did I try installing in System 9. Just wondering if anyone else has seen this situation.
  5. Was able to contact the right person/department at the FileMaker Headquarters. Was told when purchasing the Server, you get no individual client copies. Nor are there any multiple platform installs for Mac and Windows on one disk. This would require separate client purchases. For education users, they did offer a good price - $89 per client with a minimum of 25 copies. That's better! The server price was priced lower in the $500 range. So, we're getting closer. Now to find a grant source!
  6. Thanks for the reply. I have called the FileMaker company twice and got two different responses. One person claims the Server includes installation for client users, as well as, the Server installation. The second time I got a lot of "um's" and "ah's" with a commitment she would call me back. Still waiting for that call a week later. This could be an expensive venture - $700/ish for the server and perhaps $150/ish for 55 users/clients. These are estimated educational prices. Wish I could get the school district to purchase a district-wide license. Again, wishful thinking.
  7. A couple of questions I have before I purchase FMPro 5.5 Server: 1) Does the Server package come with installs for individual Mac users on the network? Or will I have to purchase software packages for every user accessing the server? 2) I have two users running Windows 95. Will the Server package have an install for them? Or will I have to purchase two FMPro PC versions?
