Our company is pretty expert in the deployment of databases integrated with Flash. Our architecture of choice is to use ASP as middleware, connected by ODBC to the database. To keep server side processing to a minimum we use the ASP/SQL simply to interrogate/update the database - scripting is kept client side (using Flash Action Script).
Our client has a content managment system and website developed by us, and now wishes to incorporate elements from their in house database, developed using FM. We would ideally like to retain the above architecture, but the good people at filemaker seem uncertain as to how well their ODBC driver would perform with ASP, and we can't find any information at all as to how to open a (read/write) ODBC connection to filemaker...
Can anyone tell us :
A) What are the likely limitations of the FM ODBC connection?
: What is the syntax for a connection to ODBC in VBScript or similar?
C) Are we, in fact, flogging a dead horse? ;-)
Finally, if we can't achieve this, can anyone offer info on how we could keep data tables in SQL server7 in synch with FM - this might offer another route, since our client is naturally reluctant to port to another DBMS.
Many thanks in advance - great board!!
