  1. I believe you could do this with either the Open URL script step or the Send Message (for Windows) or Send Apple Event (for Mac) script step. Check the help screens for these commands for more information. For the URL, you'd need to preface the full file name with "file://". For the Send Message step, you may need to place quotes around a file name that contains spaces. One thing I don't think you can do is to open another FileMaker file whose name is contained in a field. The Open URL step requires that certain system components be installed. Again, check FM help. Regards...
  2. Hi All... I'm coming in late in this thread, but I wanted to mention that Joe Obegi, who created the Aqua template on LayoutMode.com, also offers some enhanced versions of the same template as shareware at his own site: http://homepage.mac.com/WebObjects/FileSharing.woa/wa/default?user=jhobegi&templatefn=FileSharing.html&aff=consumer&cty=US&lang=en You might download these and take a look.
  3. For simple help with data entry, I think the "Invoices" sample file that shipped with FileMaker 4 used an effective technique. Clicking the help button switched you to a help layout which duplicated the data entry form from which you came. The background was lightened to distinguish it from the data entry screen, and the fields were set to disallow entry. On top of the form, simple yellow text boxes (like Post-its) and lines acted as a call-outs or balloons, pointing to and explaining the controls. The user could simply toggle between the view in which they entered data and the view which offered explanations about the controls. The help view even showed the data they had entered so far. No muss, no fuss.
