  1. I've installed FileMaker Server 7v3 and FileMaker Pro 7v3 on seperate dedicated machines. When I start FileMaker Pro and go to open -> remote, nothing is displayed in the Local Servers list. Both machines are installed on the same subnet, so no routers or what-so-ever are causing problems here. Very strange, as I've talked to another FileMaker person and he said to me that this happened in his environment too, but there it displays the FileMaker Server from time to time. Thanks in advance for any help!
  2. I'm using FileMaker Server 7v3 and I'm trying to register FileMaker Server with a directory service (AD) but I'm not able to do this. I fill in everything correctly: Directory server name: <full DNS name of a DC> DN: <distinguished name of the DC> Login settings Enabled Use Windows authentication log in using: <Username + password of domain administrator> I get the following errormessage in eventviewer: Source: FileMaker Server 7 Event ID:27 Description:Registration with directory service failed. (No Such Object) Does anybody knows what I have to do here? thanks in advance for any help
  3. Is there a way to enumerate all databases that are hosted on a FileMaker Server? I would like to create a script (e.g. a vb script) so my endusers just have to click this script that will open e.g. a HTML file with all hosted databases displayed. Then they only have to select one and click ok and the enduser will be automatically redirected to this hosted database. It doesnn't need to be in vb script, it can also be a different language (or maybe with ScriptMaker). Any help on this subject is very welcome! thanks in advance.
  4. I'm a complete newbie in the FileMaker world and would like to gain more information about FM. I'm busy on a small project to consolidate and evaluate the existing FileMaker 3 environment (they only use FileMaker pro with sharing files, no FileMaker server)and to give recommendations concerning a migration to FileMaker pro 7 + FileMaker server 7 in a citrix environment. So the past couple of days I've been digging in the FileMaker world to gain as much info as possible, but it's hard so find detailed and easy-to-use documentation. I was wondering if someone could help me to push me in the right direction here. I've got a couple of questions, it would be cool if someone could give me recommendations: 1) I'm running FM pro 7 on a citrixserver and FM server 7 on a dedicated server. Everything works fine in my test setup, but what are the server specs/recommendations for running FM pro + server in such an environement? (We will host 100 databases and we have around 100 users that need to connect to FM) 2) I've setup a filemaker 7 server on a dedicated machine (HP server with lots of CPU and memory). Installation was ok, but are there some tuning tips you are aware of? Also if I enter FileMaker server admin, there are a lot of things I can configure, are there any recommendations here? 3) Also concerning security, it is possible now to use AD to secure your FileMaker environment (e.g. for client + admin authentication), any recommendations here? 4) I'm also going to install FileMaker pro 7 on the citrix farm. Are there any configuration/tuning tips to get this working smoothly? I'm planning to publish certain filemaker 7 databases via the "fmp7://10.20.30.40/FileName.fp7", but are there any limitations and/or recommendation concerning the publishing of fm7 databases on citrix? 5) Are there any recommendation concerning a migration of filemaker 3 to filemaker 7 (conversion/migration paths?) 6) Some general tips and hints on implementing FM. I'm a complete newbie, so my knowledge concerning FM is very limited, it would be a very big help if someone could give me feedback on my questions. I know I fired off a lot of questions, but I would really appreciate any help here, thanks in advance, Joeri
  5. excellent guys! seems that fmp7://10.20.30.40/FileName.fp7 as target works just fine! I don't understand either why they still use an opener file when this simple shortcut does the job! I'm a real newbie in the filemaker world (only working with it for 3 days now), so maybe there is something I overlooked here... Anyway, thanks for your help guys!
  6. Hello, could somebody help me with a example script to call a FM server served fm7 file from a fm7 file hosted on a generic machine? thanks, Joeri
  7. I guess I've got a pretty easy question: I've set up a filemaker 7 server and installed filemaker 7 pro on a citrix server. Now, I would like to publish several database files, so users just have to click the published content to access their fm7 database. I've already tried with the following program path "C:Program FilesFileMakerFileMaker Pro 7FileMaker Pro.exe" fmnet:// but this didn't do the trick. Actually, the question is: is there a way to open a remote file on a filemaker server via the run command or command prompt (so without opening filemaker pro first -> open -> remote -> and then select preferrable file)? thanks in advance for any help, Joeri
