  1. ahhh...i was looking for an option in accounts and privileges, but i didn't dig deep enough. thanks for pointing me in the right direction! and your suggestion should do the trick.
  2. i also realize i can force the user to a layout, based on that 'complete' flag, where they would not be able to alter fields. wasn't sure if there was another way.
  3. i am working on a filemaker 8 database and i wish to be able to prevent edits to a record if the record is marked "complete". i don't wish to lock all records in the database, just the complete ones. i was hoping i don't have to do a check on each field. it would be great if certain access levels had the ability to alter 'complete' records as well. my searches for 'lock records' have not yeilded anything pertaining to what i wish to do. thanks!
  4. here is a screen shot after making an edit (scrolling actually with arrow keys, but adding or removing characters does the same thing) to the text box.
  5. not sure if this is the correct category for this issue. i just converted a database from fp5 format to fp7. it a simple database, but is exhibiting a behavior that is alarming to users. in list layout, where each data field is displayed in a horizontal row, one field has a description, and these descriptions are multiple lines. of course, one only sees the one line, but when clicked the field expands to show the entire contents. however, if one does this on the last visible item in the list (or one with much written in the description so it's box extends beyond the viewable are in the filemaker window) and adds a return or tries to use the arrow keys to move down to reveal text in that field that is below the edge of the filemaker window, the text field box expands and the filemaker data window becomes completely blank. the text within the box also mostly disappears. i can restore it by scrolling or switching layouts. so it's not losing data or anything, it's some sort of screne refresh/redraw issue. i'm on v7.0v3, and it consistently happens on multiple mahcines, developer or plain client. any ideas on how to fix or circumvent this behavior? thanks.
  6. we have a filemaker pro server and some of the data needs to be imported weekly into an oracle database. my understanding is this can be done and it is roughed out in the "FileMaker 7 ODBC and JDBC Developer's Guide"...available here if anyone is interested: FileMaker Documentation however, i know nothing about oracle, but i don't need to since there are people on staff to deal with that. i am presenting this connection option as the best way for the oracle guys here to get the data they need. the other option is for them (non-filemaker savvy people) doing exports and importing them into oracle. they don't want to do this because they don't like filemaker. i believe this whole process would be easier if i keep the oracle guys in what they know and love, oracle. once the extract was properly set up it could be done as cron job. all done. so my question is, how would one accomplish this? broad strokes that i could give to the oracle people to direct them. i figure they could build a small custom app to do this, but i have no idea what is involved with that. or, perhaps the oracle application has the ability to run scripts? any pointers would be helpful. thanks!
  7. i've recently reorganized some databases for a conversion, and the items in the nested folders are not being recognized. the files are 'not found'. sharing is on for all of these files. the file references are relative. when the files are on my local machine with the same structure, the files all work. i can not directly go to the shared files via 'open remote' and typing in the path to the file after the IP address, so the server is not sharing them but i'm not sure why. the files outside of those directories not working (named SUPPORT and DATAFILES) are being shared and can be opened. any insight would be appreciated. thanks! structure: Server Databases (dir) - - MyFMStuff (dir) - - - - fmfile.fp7 [being found and seen] - - - - SUPPORT (dir) [contents not being found] - - - - DATAFILES (dir) [contents not being found]
