  1. Right now in my layout I have a "Sub-summary by STATUS (leading)." STATUS is the field for the values PENDING and PASS. So when I print, I have two nice sections of PENDING and PASS projects. Within those sections, the projects are sorted by date. How can I sort them by another field?--Say Alphabetically by author? AND since there are multiple projects by one author, how do I sort by date after that? In sum: I'd like to keep my sections of PENDING and PASS, and within those sections sort first by author, then by date submitted. Any help would be much appreciated! Thanks! David
  2. Thanks, thats a good place to start. I appreciate it! David
  3. OK let's start simple. So in layout mode I can drag the field box and create a new field. But the choices I get for "specifying the field" are all the other fields that already exist. How do I create a brand new field, one that will appear in every record? Thanks! David
  4. I am not sure where to begin . . . and I am not sure if this can get resolved over a few posts, but here's my plea for help: I have a database of screenplays (someone else before me set this up). I need to add a category of sorts, to say from whom the screenplay came--from person A, B, or C etc. I am sort of familiar with how to add fields in layout mode . . . And the real puzzling thing is that we have lots of different views that sort the data--how to get this new category to appear in all these views? We have a view that shows all the screenplays that have come in to the office in the last 7 days. We have one that shows what is still pending. How can I add the category mentioned above in the database so that it appears as a field in all my other views? Help! If you can get me through this, I'll mail you a candy bar of your choice! I am open to talking on the phone if you are . . . A million thanks ahead of time. Yours, David
  5. Yes! That seems to have worked. Thanks so much!
  6. Thanks guys for your help. Not quite there yet. I can't click on it and delete it. If I go to Part Setup i get a window with two choices. LEADING GRAND SUMMARY (which has a locked icon next to it) and BODY. If i click on Leading Grand Summary and then hit delete it asks me if I want to "delete this part and all the objects in it." I don't want to do that, as it deletes all my fields. Essentially my page is now split in two halves--the Leading Grand Summary, and the Body. I just want to do away with this divider between them . . . Thanks for your help!
  7. Help! I am new to filemaker and am not sure how to delete the PART that I created. Here's what I did: From the left-side tool menu I dragged part to the page. It became LEADING GRAND SUMMARY and now the page is split in two. When I print, an extra page comes out. I simply would like to delete this. Any suggestions?
