hey folks, quick question, I'm working on two databases, on Database B, my field "SS" grabs info from Database A, I need both fields to have no access, which is easy enough, but I want to be able to create new records in Database A with functionality to add information in the "SS" field. When I create a new record I still don't have access to that field, I'd like to enter content and then have it go to no access. Any ideas? thanks in advance hank

Hi all, is there a way to find out what fonts are used in layouts? I can go through one by one of course, but maybe there is a usage menu or script that I"m not aware of. thanks in advance Hank101

Hi Fenton, thanks for your response and help, I will look into the questions you brought up and see what Information I really need. I think I'm leaning towards finding an Author, then creating a new manuscript entry, showing all the data from Author/Agent, then adding the new information. I have to investigate more in what's needed, I did add some new stuff, since this Is is an upgrade from an old FM3 database. thanks again, I'll get back to you if/when I have more questions. hank101

Hi folks, I'm creating a database and I'm having problems with relationships (I am a guy after all). I have 3 tables set up, Authors Agents Manuscripts I'd like to import all the old data I have into these layouts, all the fields are correct. Going forth, when creating new manuscript records, I'd like it to grab the information from the Authors and Agents tables, if the Author already exists in the database. I have serial number fields and have had it work to grab the Authors info, but not the Agents. I've attached a copy of my database, it's still in the beginning stages, so nothing is final. Hi folks, I need some guidance here, I have two databases from FM3, I'm now hosting them on FM9. One database is basically an Author contact information database, the other is a database that has books stories etc from those authors, I'd like to combine them into one database. I could do this by importing the tables right? And when adding a new entry in the story database, only have to enter, say the Authors name and have the rest of the contact info auto-fill. Is this possible? thanks Hank

Yup, it's unchecked, I have a button that opens the specified file, resize etc.... I'm going to put this splash file on all the clients machines, so it'll direct them to where they need to go, rather than use the remote (hosts), with a password for whatever file they navigate to. Make sense?

Hey all, maybe I'm missing something simple, I have 60+ databases, all were hosted on FM3, I came into the company, converted everything, upgraded to FM9, and I'm applying users, privileges, but for some reason, databases won't open with a password prompt, I've checked the file options, I know I can use option open, but I don't want users to do that. I have a splash screen directing to databases, who goes where, can do what.... What am I missing? thanks Hank101

Hi Lee, I managed to repair the file. Not sure of the cause though. I had been creating new scripts yesterday, and when I tested them, FM stated they were missing, so in the script menu, I could see them, but I couldn't modify or delete them without getting the same error message. It wouldn't recover on the server, so I transferred the bad file to my computer, it recovered ok even though it said there were no errors. I uploaded it back to the server and all is well. thanks Hank

Hey, I'm having an issue deleting scripts, I have full user access, and when I run the scripts, FM says the script cannot be found or deleted. So in scriptmaker I get the same message, even though they are listed. I recovered the file, no errors reported. Any ideas how to get rid of these orphaned scripts and I'll just redo them. thanks in advance

I figured it out, I had a perform script running on open that I forgot about. Changed that and bingo.

Hi, I'm having a problem converting a file to .fp7. The original file is .fp3. I can manage to convert it using FM6. But when I try it in FM9, the file saves to the desktop and disappears. I've successfully converted 63 other files, this is the only one that I have an issue with. I've tried with and without data in the databases. I've included the conversion log if that helps. Hey folks, I'm using the custom dialog script, after I create the buttons with the desired selections, how do I link that button to go to a specific layout? For example, button one I'd like to go to the purchase orders layout, and button two to go to an inventory layout. thanks in advance Hank

No No, Filemaker is not running when I ran utilities, after installing it, I tested it and it was fine. Opened up my test databases a-ok. After I restart the computer, everything vanishes, the user home folder has been moved into /library. There are no alias's on the desktop, or the admin console. I'm going through the logs now to see if anything strange is happening. I don't see how it can change my user account though, just the name, not the password. I will try installing again and see what happens (on a fresh os of course). I do have my drives mirrored using softraid, that couldn't be an issue could it? thanks

Hey folks, I'm installing FM9 server on a new machine, upgrading from a very old version, but starting with a fresh install, I've already converted my databases and all is well. But here is my problem, I've set up my machine the way I want it, added/subtracted apps, utilities etc, installed FM9, started the server, no problems. Now I run general maintenance (I'm running onyx, permissions/prebinding, nothing crazy) so I can make a clone and have a clean copy for restore if need be. After the onyx restart, the dock has reverted back to the original, the alias's for FM have disappeared, the system login name has been modified to include user at the end, etc etc. Does anyone have any idea what's going on here? As a side note, I created a clone without doing any cleaning, tested my restored clone, and the same thing.
