  1. I may have found my own solution, but I'll post it here anyway in case there's anyone else having the same problem, or in case someone else has a better solution. This works in FileMaker 8: Case( IsEmpty(field name); linked data::linked field name; Trim(Substitute(TextSizeRemove(TextFontRemove(field name));"¶";"")))
  2. This works in version 9 or higher, but I'm trying to do the same thing for a client who is still using version 8. This works: TextFormatRemove (Trim ( field name ) but if I want the field to auto-enter related data, nothing happens. TextFormatRemove (Trim (related data::field name) In this example, not only does the formatting not remove, but the related data doesn't enter either. Any ideas?
  3. FileMaker 10 crashes randomly and frequently on several of the PCs we have here. There is no pattern to when it crashes, no consistency at all. Sometimes it comes up with the standard Windows "This application has crashed" window, and sometimes FileMaker just quits. It's been happening when the computers are clients of Server 9 on a LAN, but it also happens when local files are open. It's driving us nuts as there's no pattern as to when it crashes, so it's hard to know where to start solving the problem. Anyone else have similar problems? or more importantly any solutions?
  4. Thanks for the advice. I am connecting to a VPN and then opening the FileMaker files, but they have given me a dns address, so as you have said, maybe that's the problem. I'll see if I can get an IP address from them.
  5. I did use Favourite Hosts, and the server and accompanying files appear okay. It's just that when I try to open a file from the list, the coffee cup cursor just sits there for a minute and then FileMaker gives up and nothing happens. I have successfully opened FileMaker files via VPN for another client, but that client is running FM Server 9 on Windows XP, and I am opening the file on Windows XP. That's why I'm wondering if it's a problem connected with me opening the files from XP and the files being served on Mac OS, and whether anyone else has had the same problem, but more importantly a solution.
  6. I have a client running Server 9 on Mac. They have set up a VPN for me so that I can give support remotely. I have Windows XP SP3 and am using FM 9 Advanced. I can open the remote file dialog. I can see the host name in the left panel. I can see the list of available files in the right panel. When I double click a file to open it, I get a coffee cup cursor for about a minute, and then FileMaker gives up and nothing happens. Is this a common cross-platform problem? I have no problem opening their files directly (from CD-ROM backups). Any ideas anyone?
