Hey there folks, wondering if there is a way to pull a photo in a Container Field through a relationship? I'm producing a Family Menue planner that has 3 tables, one for ingredients, one for meals, and the planner itself. The meals table has the title description, list of ingredients, and finally a photo of the dish. On the actual planner table I want the user to be able to select the menu item for the time of day, and have it pull the photo through a display it in a field once the item has been selected. I tried through Auto Enter, and it doesn't seem to want to work on a container field. Ideas?

This thread seemed to die a painfull death, so I'm trying again! I've investigated some results on things like "Finds across multiple tables", "Reports from mulitple tables", and the vast majority of results come from very sophisticated developers using vast scrips and cryptic field names. My Goal: To have a seperate layout where my cleint can go, put in a beginning date and end date....either hit a search button or have the system dynamically show the search results (in a portal?) and have the system automatically do a sum calculation. If the results from the invoice and expense table have to be shown seperatly, so be it, as long as I can do a calculation on the results. Thinking a layout with two portals(one from invoice the other from expense) that (and I don't know how to do this) are "filtered" by the input date range. He then prints the page, takes it to his accountant...

Mind letting me in on the process? This would have to be dynamic as this is something he'd want to do once or twice a month at least. How do you have FM import data from itself then?

It's me again folks, hoping I get some advice before I dive into the next section of my database here. My client wan't to be able to print out a report of his expenses and invoices to take to his accountant. I have an invoice table and a expenses table. I know I preform a find function, but I was hoping I can get this to generate a form of some sort where he puts in the beginning date and an end date, and the search pulls records from BOTH databases, sorts them by data (both records togethor) then finally does a tally at the end. Where would I start?:

Hey, that is exactly what I had going on at the very frigging beginning! When I didn't have need of thinning out the selection, back to basics and I didn't even see it! Forest through the trees kinda thing! Thanks again, and thanks for explaining, that helps! I'm sure I'll have more in the future, but thanks so much!

I'm pretty sure I did what you asked, made another instance of the table, and linked them as before but with one more relationship to product ID. I didn't seem to work. I checked that I had the order correct, seemed to be. I noticed it was forcing a one to many relationship because of the auto-serial trait of ProductID. Have a look and give me another hint? I can understand what you mean, but now how you do it. Please describe what fields I would use, or what relationship I would alter. I'm sorry, I understand the problem, but not the method.
-
That I know, you may have been seeing my "try bloody anything, just make it show up!" thing. How do I go about populating the ProductID-fk then? Do I have to add another instance of the table? Please keep in mind I'm still green at this, so I need a little meat with my potatoes of instruction. Can you describe how I do this?

You know, I really wish I was done this, and I wish I was capable of doing this myself! This should be very simple, but for some reason, the simple wais simply not working! Because of the hierarchal menus, it will not pull through or display my Order_line_price from the Products table, with that, it is supposed to calculate the extended price based on that times quantity. For some reason, the only time I ever managed to get a value in there, it was bring generated before you selected the description drop down...it was taking the first price from the list of Categories, Subcategory then Manufacture. Play with the invoices a bit, and check the OrderLine_Price for the same item in products, you'll see what I mean. This should be a simple Auto Value look-up no?? LJCT_1-1.0.fp7.zip

DEAR GOD THANK YOU! For real, thanks! I see how that all works now, I may be slow on the uptake, but eventually this will all make sense!
-
I've tried changing the relationship, but I admit, I'm still lost! I have tried linking the manufacture field of one Products table instance to another instance of the same table then to Orderline, but it still does not seem to filter it, getting all manufactures. I'm still very green at this, so I'm sorry if it's like talking to a brick!
-
Can you give me an idea where to start? :-)
-
That makes sense, though I am unable to find out where I can do that, I don't seem to find any further options in the Value List windows, or is this something I have to do in the Tables Relatiosnhip?
-
Ok, definatly getting there! I did what you had done, and it does indeed SEEM to work, though there are some quirks...mind having a look? If you look on invoice 18, your filtering seems to work flawlessly, but when you get to manufacture and description drop downs, they don't always bring up the proper stuff, or to much stuff. For instance, line 5, Selecting beverages, then water...you get Pepsi Co and Coca-Cola Co, if you select Pepsi Co, you get all of the pepsi co products, not just the water from them. Line 8, selected portioned coffee, then Ghost, brings up Club as the only manufacture, but then brings up the entire Club Coffee inventory. I've looked over the source excel file I used to import and made sure there are no errors there. Finally..sorry..the Per_Unit_Price doesn't seem to want to pull through so it can calculate extended price properly. The only way I can get it to pull a value is if I have it come from the Description_Filter_OL table instance....and it pops a value in there to soon, when you hit manufacture....and it won't change once you've selected the final description. I thank you so much for the help you've provided! LJCT_1.0.fp7.zip

Ok, let me peek again!
-
I only had a quick look, but did not see your changes! I see two drop downs that seem to function on the OrderDetail layout, but it has to go a litle further...needs then to select manufacture, then finally products...

Alright, thanks for the help on the Conditional Value list! I managed to make one that worked with my exsisting database, but for some reason, I cannot duplicate my results in the area I need it. I tried to duplicate my relationships to the OrderLine table, but the same set-up would not work. Please, if anyone could, download the database file I have here and you'll see what I mean. The example conditional value list is Layout #7, and I need it to function line it does there, but on a line in the Orders, OrderLine portal. LJCT_1.0.fp7.zip

Ok, here is real hard one...granted the last one wasn't! I figure this is going to involve Logic Functions. This is a basic invoicing system that has a table for the invoice, line items, and products. In the products database I have a feild for Category, Sub-Category and Manufacture. In the invoice layout, I want the user to select Category (which will be an auto generated value list) choose an option...that will then eaither open, or simply reduce the number of available sub categories available in the next menu. Once he selects a sub-category, he'll then be able to do the same to the Manufacture...untill finally he is presented with a list of products from that manufacture from that sub category from that category.... Does this make sense? Basically, right now, the value list is generated from all hte products...a list of like 600 items...need to slim down the selections.

Converting g OR oz to ONE result feild.

This worked great, thanks! I also included changes for other measures as well! -
Converting g OR oz to ONE result feild.

This was a change to an exsisting system, the client ended up wanting to be able to have multiple types of weights, so this was something I had to introduce. I'm going to try and implement this now! -
Converting g OR oz to ONE result feild.
Ryszard Gold replied to Ryszard Gold's topic in The Left Brain
Thanks! I'm assuming I'll just introduce a "weights_unit" feild, then I'll place that statement in the feild where my exsisting lbs calculation is. I'll try it out! -
I am doing up a simple product database for a cleint that is selling cofee. He gets his products in grams and ounces, but need to feed it into a single feild so a further calculation can be run to calculate costs per pot and per cup. I would like to be able to the amount of the weight in, then select the type of weight (oz or g) then have it auto calculate that into lbs, but the key is that the result is to end up in the same feild. The calculations are easy, but setting it up to use one calculation when oz is selected, and another when g are used is what I'm having trouble with! Please help!
