Printing in portals (was: black backgrounds)

Featured Replies

I can take this off-line if preferred.

What is the reason people don't like printing portals?

I have in my database an arrangement where files are structured thus:

. master -----> families -----> children

. --------------------> children

I find a certain family, possibly with multiple children of course,

via a layout in the master file[*1], and a then display another

layout that shows. family info

. portal (4 rows) each showing 1 child's info

. other family info

, the idea being to show all children and all family info on one

sheet of paper. How would one do that without portals, or without

some complicated over-arching calculation to bring the info of 4

children into 1 location?[*2]

[*1] perhaps you think I should be finding the family in the "families"

file and the related children in the "children" file. If so, please

let me know.

[*2] I guess I could do as in [*1], then jump to the children file,

where a layout had been created wherein family info is in a header and

other family info is in a footer, and each child's info is in a body

which is, say, 1/5 the size of the paper. This would necessitate

a relationship from "children" to "families", which I don't presently

have. It would also allow for the sliding up of stuff on the output when

the family has only 1 child.

I could forsee doing this on this particular layout, but I have others

where I have _2_ portals of 4 rows apiece, on separate sections of that

page. Again, I want to print only 1 page with all the relevant info.

So you see my dilemma ...
