File Access Problems when syncing on iOs

Recommended Posts

I have already posted here:

https://community.filemaker.com/thread/170677

and have some thoughts in mind, but I will copy what I put in there, here.

Avoid FMGo Connection Interrupted

Server Timeout Disconnect

In the attached links, it goes back to questions that I had that dealt with a file on an iOs device, making sure it stays live and up to date.

So what I have done is worked on a local file that syncs to the one on the server.

That seemingly works, however there is a problem that just recently came up when I was testing. When the local file tries to reach the file on the server, it doesn't always connect.

In talking with others there is two consensus of what might be the cause:

  • The Wireless access point is blocking access
  • File security permissions are not working (File Access tab in Security)
    • "Reset All" temporarily works (on the server file)
    • Deauthorizing and Authorizing sometimes works (on the server file)
    • Turning off the File Access requirement doesn't seem to help (on the server file)

I do have File Access on the local file, but I haven't tried turning that off.

Since I can't debug exactly what is going on, on the iPad this makes it harder. (I have put in some custom dialogs to see some things.)

The local file with the syncing to the server file works on my desktop, but that is a wired connection. (I could try the same wireless connection.)

It could be that I'm making a duplicate of the local file and putting that on the iPad, which makes the file not work.

(I put on the duplicate file on the iPad newly each time for testing, because I need a file without certain info on it, which will be filled later [dealing with Get(PersistentID)].)

Is there something I'm not thinking of?

To my knowledge, it had been working until recently.

I'll try a few more things, but hopefully get answers in the meantime.

Thank you

I run a small, one-person business and would like to find a hosting solution for a few small, low-use databases. Mostly I just enter some customer charges and lookup passwords, at most three times a day. The cheapest I have found is $29/month and that is more than it is worth to me. Is there any solution out there for around $10/month?

      Thanks,
      Paul

I'm looking for a way for FM Go to send messages to a mac.
I have a database file on an ipad (local, not networked). I'd like to 'control' a mac on the network in some way by sending commands to the mac. My thought was to use applescript but I understand that FM Go does not support applescript.
Any suggestions? OSC, or MIDI? Has anyone tried anything?

      Hi everyone,
on a file accessed via filemaker Go 17, I am using a scripted navigation to move records up and down in a portal that is inside a popover.
This has worked in filemaker 12 like a charm and also works on a filemaker client. The records smoothly move up and down the list.
However in Filemaker Go, the portal follows every move of the script as if it is not aware of the freeze portal.
EG the down button is to move the record one record further down inside the filtered and sorted portal (like so)
      This is the script.

      - freeze window and go to portal
      - go to first line of portal and loop through the portal until I hit the record to move
      - go to next line and give the position field the value of my record to be moved
      - go to line above and give the position field the value of my record +1
      - commit record and refresh portal via an x join
      - go to last line of the portal
      - go to the line of position of my record to be moved.

Would anyone be aware of this issue or know a workaround to stop the portal from flickering?

      Thanks so much

      Good afternoon,
I am trying to understand a problem I am experiencing with an FmGo solution.  The solution is hosted on FM Cloud (AWS) and runs well on my Mac workstation, but experiences a few issues when running on the iPad.
I'm also experiencing the same problem when I host it from a local Windows Server 2012 box.
Using RESTful APIs (with BaseElements plugin) on my Mac workstation and I am downloading product data from a host, manipulating the data, then uploading it back to the host.
I am assuming that I need to have the BE plugin running on the AWS host before FmGo can use the functions within. As no FM solution runs on the host itself (to Install Plugin), how do I install this plugin to the FMS there? (Assuming that this problem is related to plugins on FmGo).
Also, without ScriptDebugging on the iPad, I have a ton of Show Custom Dialogs all over the shop trying to see where it goes wrong on the iPad. Some of the REST calls fail with authentication errors on the iPad but work fine on the desktop. Same script. Got me beat!  I'm thinking it may be one and the same problem.
      Any help is appreciated.
      Thanks,
      Greg

MirrorSync 5 is now available and with it ships a better user experience for your clients! Today, we want to share 3 ways you can optimize your FileMaker sync experience for your users with the lastest version of MirrorSync.
If you haven't heard...MirrorSync allows you to sync FileMaker Go, FileMaker Pro, FileMaker Servers, SQL databases, and virtually any datatbase you can think of!
Here are 3 ways you can sync FileMaker and provide a better user experience using MirrorSync 5:
      1. Encrypted Password Storage
No user wants to repetitively enter their password before a sync! As a convenience to your users, MirrorSync 5 will now store encrypted passwords for your users on the server. Essentially, it stores an encrypted version of the last used password to sync an offline file. In MirrorSync 5, instead of picking between a shared, auto-entered password (less secure) or individual passwords that need to be entered on each sync (less convenient), everyone can use their own password with ease and optimal security.
      2. Fast Initial Sync
MirrorSync now runs a server-side initial sync! It will save an empty clone of the file, and temporarily host the empty file copy on FileMaker Server where it runs a fast server to server sync of only the selected records you want to sync. This is especially helpful if you have a massive database and only want to sync a subset of records without draining the memory on the local device, such as an iPad or iPhone. Once the sync is complete, MirrorSync closes the file on the server and sends the pre-populated file down to your users.
      3. Monitor Your Sync Statistics
MirrorSync now reports sync stats to AWS CloudWatch. You can get real-time updates on important metrics such as sync times, warnings, and other notifications. Having this insight at your fingertips will make you instantly aware of issues or difficulties your users may be running into.
