July 5, 20178 yr A customer running Mirror Sync 2 has moved offices, subsequently getting a new external IP address. I did not set up Mirror Sync in the first place, but can see from looking at the script that the external IP address is coded there. The documentation says that it is necessary to run the configuration again. Is this really necessary, or could we simply update the IP address in the script and distribute new copies of the file to remote users? Is it possible to code a DNS name (e.g server.client.com) instead of an IP address, in case this happens again? Thanks in advance.
July 5, 20178 yr With MirrorSync 2, It is necessary to redo the configuration, and to distribute new offline files to users. MirrorSync embeds the server address into its internal database, so if that changes, all the sync data will not match up, making it necessary to start over again. With MirrorSync 3, it is possible to change the server's address without starting over again with the sync. Yes, using the name instead of the address will prevent this from happening again in the future, and is the recommended practice.
