Open a serving file from Browser

Featured Replies

Hi,

I know this question should not belong to this section, but I don't know where should I go? Please forgive me.

Anyway my question is there is anyway that I can a serving filemaker files from a Internet browser such as Explorer, and Netscape, etc.. for example I just type some path name from "URL Address" of the browser.

Thank you for any information

I don't think I really understand the question. Are you talking about publishing Filemaker data to the web? Like instant web publishing?

Sorry for confusing you. Let's say

1.I have a file called testing.fp5 located in my Windows 2000 desktop.

2. Then I lauch Explorer Browser

3. In the URL address (of opening browser) entry I type: testing.fp5, it will open up testing.Fp5.

As you see I can launch a LOCAL/OPEN filemaker PRO file from a Internet Browser, and my question is how can Iaunch a network or serving fmp file? This is nothing to do with Web Publishing at all.

I hope I make myself clear this time

Once again, thanks for time.

Without Web Companion or so other interface, FM does not directly support access by a browser. You also can't open a a MS Word or Excel file directly with a browser. No database program I know of directly supports being opened by a browser. Web Companion, Lasso, et all create the HTML or XML code/files which can then be opened by a browser.

You are absolutely right. However for some reason I can open/launch any file that located in my desktop by typing the filename in the URL address entry of Explorer Browser, that's why I come up with the question that if I can open a local file from Browser, then I should be able to open a network file?:P?

If you have a chance, please try to open any file in your desktop from the browser?

Thanks
