A client running FMP4.0v1 on Windows98 has a lot of linked .jpg files. The problem is that with many of them, apparently at random, the links get broken. There is no apparent reason. It doesn't matter whether they're using their network, or all the files are on one non-networked computer. We're talking 5-10% of the links breaking.

How could this be happening, and how can they fix it?

They can't just import the pics but must link them, since with over 6,000 records and 4x5" pics (even at 72dpi) it would result in a file size larger than 2GB.

It doesn't matter whether they're using their network, or all the files are on one non-networked computer.

Is FMP on the same machine as the files? Regardless, it makes me think that this has to do with the way Windows 98 OLE works with FMP. I'd look for the patch in Knowledge Base on www.microsoft.com, see if another OS (W2K) still breaks the links. Just a shot in the dark, I never encountered this problem before.

Keep us posted.

FMP is definitely on the same machine as the files when it's a one-computer (non-networked) setup. Additionally, it turns out that setup is Win2K-based.

I'm wondering if upgrading to 4.0v3 might fix this, but there doesn't seem to be any mention on the FMI website about this problem -- and I've never encountered it before.
