July 9, 200223 yr Is there a way to have Filemaker print only whats in the field? What I mean by this is we use a note field to track customer notes and when they have been completely processed and the file is closed we print the note history. Some clients have 1/2 a page and some have 5 pages of notes. Is there a way for filemaker to decide how many pages will be printed and not have the layout 6 pages long with 1-5 blank each time we have a note history printed?
July 9, 200223 yr FMP will not expand a field size in layout mode to accommodate a large amount of text, but it will contract to match amounts of text smaller than the field real estate allotted. This is done in the layout mode in Sliding/Printing under Format. Choose the Also Reduce The Size Of The Enclosing Part option. A good way to do this is simply make the printing field as large as you think it would ever need to be even if that's 10 pages deep, and then have the option you chose above have it contract to fit smaller entries automatically. If you combine this with printing a list of records, you can print nearly anything without wasting blank pages.
