Find location of highlighted text

Is there a script step that returns the location of selected text within a field? That is, if

sample = I am fond of cheese

and I have highlighted 'of', is there a function that will return

(11, 12) to indicate the start and stop of the highlight? OR any other way to acquire this information?

If you mean by "highlighted" text you have moved the cursor over and highlighted as in before a copy, no. This is a system interactions and I'm not aware of any way to access this information using FM. Maybe one of our AppleScript gurus has an idea if this is possible using that mechanism.
