Access FM14 db on Mac w Mojave?

How do I upgrade from FM 14 so that I can access my FM database from both my MacBook Pro running Mojave 10.14 and my iPhone? Currently I am single-user and my ambition to bump to 2 or 3 users is very low. For several months I have only been able to access the DB with my iPhone so programming is impossible. I was using a hosting service from 2015 until this problem but their solutions to this problem all seem to be poor choices since their serving is done via FM 16 (or maybe even older). I am willing to spend $540 to buy FM 17 but can I find a good hosting choice? Why is this update so difficult? (and expensive?). The FM mission seems terribly distorted now.
