August 7, 200223 yr Hi experts, I am trying to do a sync with a Filemaker file which is hosted in a Filemaker Server. When I tried to do a sync with that file I could not get the file in my palm. It means it is impossible to sync with a Filemaker file which is hosted in the server? I tried to click on the FM Mobile Plugin settings by going to File-->Sharing I got the error message "You do not have proper access previleges". Please shed some lights on this. Thanks a lot. Hameed
August 7, 200223 yr We never went the FM Mobile route because I read the words "single user, non-relational databases" on the webpage. If your file is served, it is not single user.
August 7, 200223 yr Isn't that analgous of saying....We would like to sell you this car, but oh by the way... it doesn't have an engine, and we were thinking about at least putting some wheels on it, but decided not to since it didn't have an engine anyway.
August 7, 200223 yr I agree. I suppose there are single-user, non-relational solutions out there, but I'm not using any of them. I am awfully tired of people asking me if they can put my databases on their palm pilots when I've published the thing to the web and they all have laptops with internet access. Friggin' PDA junkies...
August 8, 200223 yr Author I never know that the FM Mobile 2.0 is single user. But I need to give my client a way to get the data from the hosted file into her palm. I am thinking to put a filemaker single user file one each of my clients desktop and export the data directly to the file in the dektop. Then he/she opens the file in the desktop to sync it to her palm. Is it the correct way of doing it? Thanks for your answers and suggestions, Hameed
August 8, 200223 yr I had the pleasure of doing something similar for a client, although in her case she only wanted to view the information on her Palm, not modify it. I basically made a duplicate of her database which was set to single user. A script in this database called a Find All script in the master, then imported the records from the master. She could then synch it with FileMaker Mobile. This suited my client just fine; when I came on board she had already purchased FM Mobile. However, based on the available options out there, I would recommend steering away from Mobile altogether and look into JFile or HanDBase.
