Script editor - search and replace? Split window?

Is there a way, even if it requires a plug-in, to get some more advanced features in the script editor.  Specifically I really miss search and replace (or even just search!) and a horizontal (or vertical) split window to edit more efficiently.  While I get that it's not a text editor, these features are so useful you'd think someone would have implemented them.  Thanks.
