ignotum Posted 10 hours ago Posted 10 hours ago BACKGROUND Our structure is with a hosted hub file and a hosted spoke file that users download... both existing users when they need an updated spoke file and new users who are getting the spoke file for the first time. We have a file based log in to the system - everyone gets to our log in screen with a generic security-based log in and then enter their "staff" log in credentials to validate and enter the system. (Yes, I understand the vulnerabilities of this method) PROCESS When a new user is added to the system the staff administrator goes into his spoke file, adds the staff record and sends the new user their log in credentials. The staff admin then syncs so that new staff data goes up to the hub file. The staff admin then needs to get the new staff person a copy of the spoke file WITH THEIR NEW STAFF RECORD in it. QUESTION(S) How can I do that? I know that we can give them a link that will download a "full copy of the file" and "Run the initial sync on the server". GREAT: that the file be what we want. BUT: the issue then is that in order to use that link the new user will need to "Enter your FileMaker database credentials in order to run the initial sync." What credentials does that need to be? Can I simply create a special account in the hub's Manage Security to be used only for this initial server-side sync and download? And if so what Privilege set should that use? Any/all insight will be greatly appreciated. Mark (PS Happy Thanksgiving to those that celebrate.)
ignotum Posted 8 hours ago Author Posted 8 hours ago So after some testing I see that I can create an account & PW in BOTH the hosted hub and spoke files with Full Access and it works. HOWEVER I do not want the users out in the world to have Full Access credentials to the system,. I will try some lesser privilege sets to see what might work. Again: any input will be welcome.
ignotum Posted 7 hours ago Author Posted 7 hours ago Well as it turns out reading the documentation helps.... (Arrrggghhh)
