Newbies wella Posted December 10, 2024 Newbies Posted December 10, 2024 Hi everyone, I am glad to be new here and be part of this community. I am currently running Filemaker Pro 19.x and I have a lot of Table Occurrences. I created another fmp project file within filemaker in order to setup a dev environment which connects to the dev database. I have everything imported and it works the same way as the live environment however, when i make updates to the data within filemaker e.g. changing an address of a client, it will update the live environment as well. After checking with my filemaker hosting company, they told me that i need to re-create the table occurrences (TO). It wouldn't be a problem but I got so many tables there, that it would be a nightmare to update them manually. I was wondering if there is a tool or easier way to update them. thank you so much!

Expand Welcome to FMForums, Wella! Why not just serve up a copy of your live file for testing? Then if you update a Client during testing, it won't change the live file. I realize I don't have a full picture of your needs yet, so fill us in a bit more and we can help further!
Newbies wella Posted December 12, 2024 Author Newbies Posted December 12, 2024 Thanks LaRetta for getting back to me. I have it setup as a copy and all TO are there. I made sure it is connected to the Dev_database in sql however, when i update a record it updates the live version as well. I called my filemaker hosting company and they told me that I would need to re-create all TO in the development file. Which would be a lot of work! I am running a sql db and have 2 db there, one with the live data and one for development purposes. In filemaker pro I have two fmp files one as a production environemnt and the other one as development. I have everthing there my layouts, TO... I made sure the dev filemaker file points to the right db.
dansmith65 Posted December 13, 2024 Posted December 13, 2024 Can you confirm that in the External Data Source of your Dev file, it's connecting to the Dev_database in sql? I'm pretty sure that's what you're saying you've done, but I want to confirm. This will likely require an additional System DSN to be created, which connects to the correct db, which is then referenced in the External Data Source. https://support.claris.com/s/answerview?anum=000023499&language=en_US
Newbies wella Posted December 13, 2024 Author Newbies Posted December 13, 2024 It is all there and having the DEV dsn. Even the TO have all the dev db.
dansmith65 Posted December 13, 2024 Posted December 13, 2024 So your FM Dev file is changing the dev SQL data AND the live SQL data? If credentials for the dev and live db's are different, then that shouldn't be possible purely from a security perspective. Is something on the SQL side replicating changes?
