Latency Mystery

Good afternoon,

I am looking for feedback, some ideas, please on a problem I am experiencing.

As of several weeks ago, for no obvious reason (but yes, there must be a reason), some devices started having trouble logging in depending on where they were - they would just timeout.

Here are the basic facts:

- A solution is hosted in a data centre in the same city as the company that uses it. Average Ping time is betwen 3ms and 12ms.

- The host is well resourced and spend most of it's time idle - it rarely gets pushed too hard. It's running the latest major revision of FMS on Windows.

- The Internet speed from the various locations(*) is more than adequate - 100Mbs in all cases.

- The devices that the solution is running on are all fairly modern and running well - all with updated OS/iOS and versions of FmPro or FmGo.

- Nothing in the solution (other than data) had changed, nothing structural, no version changes.

One example of problem:

Client uses his laptop in the office. All works fine - responsive and quick.

Client takes same laptop home and it runs slowly - often timing out before being fully logged into FmPro. Home Wi-Fi is 250Mbs+ and always run nicely.

It has worked fine at home in the past, so this is a new problem.

The problem is not the time of day, the medium (Wi-Fi va 4G/5G), although all Ethernet cabled devices are fast.

I have checked a number of things, but not been able to pinpoint why this would start occurring - the symptoms have been sporadic.

Has anybody seen this problem before or can think of something that i might have missed?

Many thanks in advance for feedback.

Greg
